Kate Rusby

Lovely! Your dad has good taste in music: Kate Rusby is one of my favorite artists! I am really impressed with how you drew her hair: the detailed three-dimensional rendering of the lighter curls in front and the flattened silhouette of the curls in the back creates a very nice effect. I like the softness of the shading on her face and throat, and the way you were able to define the brightly lit left side of her face without an outline, using only the subtle but definite difference in value between her cheek and the white background. Perhaps because of the overall softness of your shading, I feel like some of the lines on her face and neck are a bit unnecessarily crisply defined (particularly the smile line on the side of her mouth that is in shadow), making her look a bit older than she does in the original photograph. I like the way you captured the reflected light on her eyes and lower lip. The overall effect is so photo-real that in the thumbnail I thought it was a photograph!

(I looked at the date and realized that you drew this seven years ago, so maybe my comments aren't particularly useful anymore! Well, I really do like the picture, in any case.)
